  1. Dependency Ratio refers to the proportion of those who are economically inactive (ages 15–59) to those who are dependent (below 15 and over 60).
  2. The Dependency Ratio is higher in India because  a larger number of children (34.4%) and aged  population (6.9%) are found dependent upon the  working population (58.7%).

  3. The working population must supply the food, clothing, education, and healthcare that the economically unproductive population needs.
