Solutions to CBSE Sample Paper - English Class 11

Should animals be used for scientific experiments? Taking a cue from the points given below and using your own ideas, write a debate speech for or against the topic in about 150 words.

  • Animals can provide valuable insights into human biology, diseases, and treatments, and help in developing new drugs and vaccines.
  • Animals can also suffer from pain, stress, and harm, and have the right to live free from exploitation and cruelty.
  • Scientists should follow ethical principles and guidelines on the use of animals, such as minimizing their number, ensuring their welfare, and replacing them with alternatives whenever possible.

Answer as written by the student:

Animal testing is unethical because it violates the rights of animals to live free from harm and suffering. Animals are sentient beings who can feel pain, stress, and fear. They are not objects or tools for human use. They deserve respect and compassion, not exploitation and cruelty. Animal testing is a form of animal abuse that should be condemned and banned.

Animal testing is unreliable because it does not accurately predict the effects of drugs and treatments on humans. Animals have different genes, organs, and metabolic systems from humans. They also have different environments, diets, and lifestyles. What works on animals may not work on humans, and vice versa. Animal testing can lead to false results, wasted resources, and human harm.
