  • Government is the institution that makes and enforces the rules for a society . It consists of people who have the authority and the power to govern the affairs of the state and its citizens.
  • The functions of the government are:
    • To maintain order and security : The government ensures that people follow the laws and respect the rights of others. It also protects the society from external threats and internal conflicts. 🛡
    • To provide public goods and services : The government provides essential goods and services that benefit society as a whole, such as roads, education, health care, and defense.
    • To regulate the economy : The government influences the economic activities of the society by making policies on taxation, trade, currency, and budget. It also promotes economic growth and development.
    • To redistribute income and wealth : The government tries to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor by transferring resources from one group to another. It also provides social welfare and assistance to the needy.
    • To represent the society : The government acts as the voice and the agent of the society in domestic and international affairs. It also reflects the values and interests of the people.
