Answers:

  • A. On: “On” is used to depict the position of an object situated above a certain thing and is not used with time. So, the correct word is ‘in’ .
  • B. Since: “Since” is used when the year when an event started is given for example: since 1947, India has been independent and not when the whole period is mentioned. So, the correct word is ‘for’.
  • C. Which: “Which” is used with non living subjects and not with time. So, the correct word is ‘when’.
  • D. Wake: “Wake” is used with present tense and not with past tense. So, the correct word is ‘woke’.

Thus the correct paragraph is

My day begins at five o’clock in the morning.  It has been so for the last forty years  except for the two years when I was very ill. I woke up only at the sound of an aeroplane
