What is Amoeba?

Amoeba is a microscopic single celled organism found in Pond water.

  • It has no fixed shape. It constantly changes its shape and position .
  • It has a cell membrane, dense nucleus and many bubbled shaped vacuoles in its cytoplasm.

 

What are Pseudopodia?

Amoeba has finger-like projections which are called Pseudopodia or False feet .

When amoeba senses food, it pushes out pseudopodia around the food particle and engulfs it .

 

What is a Food Vacuole?

The food engulfed by pseudopodia becomes trapped in a food vacuole .

A food vacuole is a bubble of water containing the food particle captured by Amoeba.
