Plaster of Paris should be stored in a moisture-proof container. Explain why?

Answer:

Plaster of paris is a white powder. If it is not stored in a moisture-proof container, then it might react with moisture that penetrates through the container..

Upon reaction with water, it gets converted into a hard substance, called gypsum, whose properties are entirely different from that of plaster of paris.

The reaction takes place as follows

After being converted into gypsum, it becomes unfit for use.
