How do we know the presence of atoms if

The answer to this question lies in the Law of Constant Proportions.

  • The law states that; in a chemical compound, two or more elements are always present in the same ratio by mass .
  • This means that the elements combine in a fixed ratio to form compounds.
  • And these elements are made up to tiny particles that cannot be further divided.
  • Thus we know atoms exist even if they don't exist independently .
