What is Ozone?

Ozone is O 3 . It contains 3 atoms of Oxygen.

Oxygen gas in our atmosphere is O 2 . It provides life to all living organisms

How is Ozone formed?

In higher levels of atmosphere, due to UV radiations

Oxygen molecule (O 2 ) converts into free Oxygen atoms (O)

These free Oxygen atoms react with Oxygen Molecule to form Ozone

What are the harmful effects of Ozone layer depletion?

Ozone layer is on the top most layer of the atmosphere.

It protects the earth from harmful UV Radiations.

When we use harmful pollutants like CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons), it reacts with Ozone in the atmosphere and causes the Ozone layer to deplete.

This Ozone layer depletion causes humans to be directly exposed to UV rays, which can cause skin cancer

Has the Ozone production decreased?

Ozone has decreased due to less use of CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons)

CFCs were used in refrigerators and fire extinguishers.

But after 1980s, it became mandatory for manufacturing companies to make CFC-free refrigerators throughout the world
