Why water is not suitable for fires of oil and petrol?

It is because of 2 reasons

 

  1. Water is heavier than oil,water sinks to bottom and oil keeps burning on top
  2. Water does not mix with oil or petrol

 

Hence,water is not able to remove fire from oil and petrol
