Mean = (Sum of observations)/(Number of observations)
Mean is also called Arithmetic Mean (AM) or average as well.
Let’s look at some examples.
Runs scored by Virat Kohli are 120, 24, 48, 64, 29, 64, 71, 3, 64, 29
Find his average score.
Average Score = (Sum of observations)/(Number of observations)
= (120 + 24 + 48 + 64 + 29 + 64 + 71 + 3 + 64 + 29)/10
= 516/10
= 51.6
Thus, average score is 51.6
Marks scored by Satvik in his test are 48, 91, 83, 83, 95.
What is his mean marks?
Mean = (48 + 91 + 83 + 83 + 95)/5
= 400/5
= 80
Thus, mean marks is 80
