Additive Identity

0 is called additive identity.

  a + 0 = 0 + a = a

Additive Inverse

Negative of a number is called additive inverse.

Like

Additive inverse of 56 = −56

Additive inverse of –10 = −(–10) = 10

Let’s do some more examples and check as well

Additive inverse of 2

Additive inverse of 2 = -2

Check : Number + Additive inverse = 0

L.H.S =  Number + Additive inverse

  = 2  +  (-2)

  = 2 - 2

  = 0

  = R.H.S

Hence, –2 is the additive inverse of 2

Additive inverse of 2/3

Additive inverse of 2/3 = (-2)/3

Check : Number + Additive inverse = 0

L.H.S =  Number + Additive inverse

          = 2/3+((-2)/3)

          = 2/3-2/3

          = 0

         = R.H.S

Hence, (-2)/3  is the additive inverse of 2/3

Additive inverse of (-4)/5

Additive inverse of (-4)/5 = −((−4)/5) = 4/5

Check : Number + Additive inverse = 0

L.H.S =  Number + Additive inverse

          = (-4)/5+ 4/5

          = 0

         = R.H.S

Hence, 4/5 is the additive inverse of (-4)/5
