Set is a well defined collection of objects.

Set is well defined -

i.e. it doesn’t change from person to person

Example

Collection of natural numbers less than 6

Natural numbers = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,…

Natural numbers less than 6 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Since Collection of natural numbers until 5 is known and can be counted (well –defined)

It is a set

Collection of 5 best cricketers of the world

Some people will say Sachin Tendulkar is the best, some say Virat Kohli.

Some say MS Dhoni.

Since you can have different players, I can have different players. So, the collection varies from person to person.

So, the collection is not well-defined.

Hence it is not a set.
