Question 35 (B) The monthly expenditure on milk in 200 families of a Housing Society is given below Find the value of x and also find the mean expenditureGiven Total number of families = 200 Sum of frequency = 200 24 + 40 + 33 + x + 30 + 22 + 16 + 7 = 200 172 + x = 200 x = 200 − 172 x = 28 So, our table looks like Mean(𝑥 ̅) = a + h × (∑▒𝑓𝑖𝑢𝑖)/(∑▒𝑓𝑖) Where a = assumed mean = 3250 h = Class interval = 500 ∑▒𝒇𝒊 = 200 ∑▒𝒇𝒊𝒖𝒊 = –235 Putting values in Formula Mean(𝑥 ̅) = 3250 + 500 × (−235)/200 Mean(𝑥 ̅) = 3250 + 5 × (−235)/2 𝑥 ̅ = 3250 – 587.2 𝑥 ̅ = 2662.5 Therefore, Mean expenditure is Rs. 2662.5
