  • Regional party is formed after the elections of the legislative assembly.
  • National party is formed after the elections of Lok Sabha elections.

Answer to be written in Exam:

In India, political parties are recognized as Regional and National parties in the following ways: 

1. Regional parties:

A party that secures at least six percent of the total votes in an election to the Legislative Assembly of a state and wins at least two seats are recognized as state party or regional party.

Example: Aam Aadmi Party

 

2. National parties:

A party that secures at least six percent of the total votes in Lok Sabha elections or Assembly elections in four states and wins at least four seats in Lok Sabha is recognized as a national party. Example: Bhartiya Janta Party
