Solutions to CBSE Sample Paper - English Class 11

Read the following text.

Rearrange the following sentences in a logical order to form a recipe for making chocolate cake. Number the sentences from 1 to 6.

  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  •  In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • You will need two cups of all-purpose flour, two cups of sugar, three-fourth cup of cocoa powder, two teaspoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of baking powder, one teaspoon of salt, two eggs, one cup of vegetable oil, one cup of milk, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and one cup of boiling water.
  • Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack before frosting or slicing.
  • Add the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to the egg mixture and mix well. Stir in the boiling water and pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.

Answer as written by the student:

  1. You will need two cups of all-purpose flour, two cups of sugar, three-fourth cup of cocoa powder, two teaspoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of baking powder, one teaspoon of salt, two eggs, one cup of vegetable oil, one cup of milk, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and one cup of boiling water.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to the egg mixture and mix well. Stir in the boiling water and pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  4. Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack before frosting or slicing.```

Step-by-step explanation of the answer:

  • The first thing to do is to identify the main steps of making a chocolate cake, such as gathering the ingredients, preparing the batter, baking the cake, and cooling the cake. 🍽️
  • The next thing to do is to find the sentences that correspond to each step, and arrange them in the order that they should be performed. 📝
  • The sentence that lists the ingredients is the first one , as it tells us what we need to make the cake. So, we number it as 1. 🥣
  • The sentence that describes how to whisk the eggs, oil, and vanilla extract is the second one, as it is the first step of preparing the batter. So, we number it as 2. 🥚
  • The sentence that explains how to add the dry ingredients and the boiling water to the egg mixture is the third one, as it is the second step of preparing the batter. So, we number it as 3. 🍫
  • The sentence that instructs how to bake the cake in the oven is the fourth one, as it is the main step of baking the cake. So, we number it as 4. 🥧
  • The sentence that advises how to cool the cake on a wire rack is the fifth one, as it is the final step of making the cake. So, we number it as 5. 🧊
