hunger and lack of shelter.
Poverty also means a
lack of clean water and sanitation facilities.
It also means a lack of a regular job at a minimum decent level.

One of the most difficult challenges
faced by independent India is Poverty
. Poverty trends in India and the world are illustrated through the
concept of the poverty line.

Every fourth person
in India is
poor.
This means, roughly 270 million (or 27 crores) people in India live in poverty from 2011-12.
- This also means India has the most significant single concentration of the poor globally. This illustrates the seriousness of the challenge.
