Tea/ Coffee plantations-

  1. Large tracts of forest land were sold by colonial officials to primarily European plantation companies in order to satisfy the rising demand for tea and coffee.

  2. These companies cleared the forest to make room for tea and coffee plantations. Many acres of woodland were lost as a result.
