Why did the rajas of mahajanapadas build forts?

  • The rajas of mahajanapadas built forts to protect their kingdoms from external attacks. 

  • The forts were generally located on hills or other strategic locations and were heavily fortified with walls , gates, and watchtowers. 

  • The forts also served as centers of administration and trade, and many towns grew around them. 

  • The forts were manned by soldiers who were trained in warfare and were ready to defend the kingdom at all times. 

  • forts also served as a symbol of the king's power and authority over his subjects.
