The constitution of India has provided various safeguards against inequality and discrimination
based on the principles of equality, justice, and dignity of all citizens.

Some of these safeguards are
- Right to equality before the law and equal protection of laws,
- Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth,
- Abolition of untouchability and titles, reservation of seats for backward classes and minorities in public employment and education,
- Freedom of religion and conscience,
- Cultural and educational rights of minorities, and
- Right to constitutional remedies for enforcement of fundamental rights.
