  • A child is  ‘special’ when his/ her capacities and needs are different from other children.

  • These children may have difficulties or disabilities that other children do not have.

  • The term ‘ impairmen t’, Disability, and Handicap are used when referring to a special child.
    • An Impairment is a loss or abnormality of the body's structure or its function. For Example: Losing a limb in an accident
    • A disability is a restriction to perform an activity in a manner considered normal for a human being.
    • A handicap results from an impairment or disability that limits or prevents the fulfillment of a role that is normal of that individual.
  • Disabled children are now called as children with special needs.
