The Milky Way is the name of our galaxy . A galaxy is a huge group of stars , planets , and other objects in space that are held together by gravity . The Milky Way has billions of stars, including our Sun and its planets. The Milky Way looks like a bright band of light in the night sky because we see many stars that are very far away.
The Milky Way is very big. It is about 100,000 light-years across. A light-year is the distance that light travels in one year, which is about 9.5 trillion kilometers. It takes about 200 million years for the Milky Way to spin around once. We live in one of the arms of the Milky Way, about 25,000 light-years from the center.
