Introduction to Files - Concepts

A file is a collection of related data stored on a secondary storage device, such as a hard disk, CD, DVD, pen drive, etc. A file has a name and an extension that indicates its type. For example, “Book.txt” is a file name with “.txt” as the extension that indicates it is a text file. Files are used to store data permanently and to transfer data between different programs or devices.
