What is meant by Indian Standard Time? Why do we need a Standard Meridian for India?

Answer :

Answer to be written in exam :

  1. The time applicable all over India is Indian Standard Time.
  2. Since, every state has different longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates, it wont give a uniform time in all the states.
  3.   To avoid a time gap of 2 hours between East and  West part of India which may create confusion in working and lack uniformity , it is essential to have a Standard  Meridian.
