  1. The Sinhala leaders attempted to achieve authority over the government through their majority.
  2. In 1956, an act was passed that declared Sinhala as the only official language.
  3. Sinhala applicants were prioritized for universities and government positions.
  4. Buddhism was made a state religion through a  new constitution.
