(a)
- The red wire is the live wire connecting to the positive input.
- The black wire is the neutral wire connecting to the negative input.
- The green wire is the Earth wire , for leakage currents to prevent shocks .
- For short circuits , the positive and the negative wires should be connected .
Hence, contact between the red and the black wire would lead to a short circuit.
(b) In case of a short circuit, there is a drastic increase in the amount of current flowing through a wire.
This is due to a drastic decrease in the resistance in the wire/circuit.
