For the activity to prove that air supports burning, we would need a glass tumbler (so that we can observe the result) and two candles.
- Take 2 burning candles and place a glass tumbler over one of them.
- After some time, we’ll observe that the candle which we covered with the tumbler extinguishes.
- This is because, by placing the glass tumbler, we are cutting off the air (oxygen) supply and as soon the oxygen which is present inside the inverted tumbler gets consumed, the candle extinguishes.
This illustrates that air is essential for burning.
