Chromosomes contain the genes of the cell , and hence the DNA/genetic information required for the cell's survival , functioning as well as reproduction .
- Since chromosomes contain genes, they control the synthesis of structural proteins and help in cell division and growth .
- They are also responsible for reproduction in cells as they copy themselves during the process of mitosis (cell division).
