How does an Amoeba obtain its food?

Answer:

An amoeba catches its food by changing its shape and using pseudopodia to capture food.

  • It has a flexible cell membrane that can create finger-like extensions called pseudopodia
  • The amoeba starts by extending its pseudopodia and surrounding the food particle.
  • The amoeba takes in the food particle and creates a food vacuole inside which the food is digested with the help of enzymes
  • After digestion , any waste or undigested products move to the surface of the cell and are thrown out of the cell body.

This entire process of obtaining food is called phagocytosis .
