Outline a project which aims to find the dominant coat colour in dogs.
Answer:
We can follow Mendel’s approach to design a project to find the dominant coat colour in dogs.
In Mendel’s experiment we saw that when a homozygous tall and homozygous short plant were mated , only tall plants appeared in the F 1 generation and it was concluded that the Tall variant is dominant.
Similarly, if a homozygous black male (or female) and a homozygous white female (or male) are made to mate, if only black coat colour appears in the F 1 generation , we can conclude that black coat colour is dominant and white coat colour is recessive.
If a white coat colour appears in the F 1 generation , we can conclude that white coat colour is dominant and black coat colour is recessive.
