What is the function of receptors in our body? Think of situations where receptors do not work properly. What problems are likely to arise?

Answer

5 BASIC SENSORY RECEPTORS IN HUMAN - Teachoo.jpg

Receptors detect signals and transmit them to the brain in the form of electrical and chemical impulses.

  • Situation where Receptors don’t work properly

If these receptors do not work, then we will not be able to detect the signals/ stimulus caused due to changes in the environment.

For example, if there is a car coming towards you

  • Your photoreceptors in the eyes will not sense the visual stimulus
  • Your phonoreceptors in the inner ear will not sense the auditory (sound) stimulus

Thus your brain won’t be able to send signals that enable you to move away to avoid danger.
