What is the process of dialysis?
Answer:
- When a person has kidney failure, the waste products are removed by the help of artificial kidney or haemodialysis.
- Artificial kidney is a physico - chemical device , based on the principle of separation of smaller solutes or ions from larger ions with the help of ultrafilter .
- The dialysis machine consists of a tube of semi permeable membrane which is coiled to the tank.
- This tank is filled with dialysing fluid i.e. glucose, water and salts has the same osmotic concentration as that of blood .
- As the patient's blood passes through the solution nitrogenous waste products , phosphates and sulfates are excluded .
- The clean blood is pumped back to the vein of the patient's arm. This whole process takes 3-4 hours.
