Question 15 If ABCD is a rectangle , find the values of x and y (a) X = 10, y = 2 (b) X = 12, y = 8 (c) X = 2,y = 10 (d) X = 20, y = 0 Since ABCD is a rectangle Opposite sides are equal Therefore, x + y = 12 x − y = 8 Adding (1) and (2) (x + y) + (x − y) = 12 + 8 2x = 20 x = 20/2 x = 10 Putting x = 10 in (1) x + y = 12 10 + y = 12 y = 12 − 10 y = 2 ∴ x = 10, y = 2 So, the correct answer is (a)
