If an atom contains one electron and one proton, will it carry any charge or not?

Answer

The atom contains 1 proton and 1 electron.

• The charge of a proton is +1
• The charge of an electron is -1

Hence,

  Total charge on the atoms = Total charge of proton + Total charge charge of electron

                                                      = 1 + (-1)

                                                      = 0

Hence, it will not contain any charge .
