It is an arrangement where 2 electrodes are kept in an electrolyte in a vessel

Hence to make an Electrolytic Cell ,we need

  1. 2 Electrodes (Solid through which electric current leaves or enters
  2. Electrolytes (Liquid which is good conductor of Electricity)
  3. Vessel(to keep Electrodes or Electrolytes)

 

What is an Electrode?

It is a solid through which electric current leaves or enters

They are made of Carbon and metals

They are of 2 types

  • Cathode - It is connected to the positive terminal of battery and gets positively charged
  • Anode - It is connected to negative terminal of battery and gets negatively charged
