Ex 7.1 , 1 Find the distance between the following pairs of points : (i) (2, 3), (4, 1) Let the two points be P(2, 3) & Q(4, 1) We need to find distance PQ PQ = √((𝑥2 −𝑥1)2+(𝑦2 −𝑦1)2) Here, x1 = x coordinate of P = 2 y1 = y coordinate of P = 3 x2 = x coordinate of Q = 4 y2 = y coordinate of Q = 1 Putting values PQ = √((4 −2 )2+(1 −3)2) = √((2 )2+(−2)2) = √((2 ×2)+(−2 ×−2) ) = √(4+4) = √8 = √(4(2)) = √(4 ×(2)) = √4 × √2 = 2 × √2 = 2√𝟐
